Today we did nuts and bolts of chapter 11. We started by reviewing etre verbs in the passe compose and did workbook page 111#12. Then we corrected the workbook homework and read the text on pages 356, 357, 360 and 361.

Today we reviewed the "etre" verbs that sometimes take avoir and did workbook page 104#7. Then we corrected the workbook vocabulary and read the text on pages 280, 281, 284 and 285. Then we talked about the pronoun "y" and practiced using it.

Today we went over last night's workbook homework and talked some more about the "etre" verbs, those that use "etre" in the past tense instead of avoir. Refer to your passe compose handout, the verbs that spell out "MRS DR VANDERTRAMP." We spent class each student designing their own Maison d'etre. Include all 17 actions, illustrated and labelled, in a house. On the back, write 2 sentences for each verb, one with il and one with elle. Use the passe compose, and the past participle. Example:
Il est alleacute;. Elle est allée. Remember to add an e with it's a fille.

Today we went over last night's workbook homework, reviewed the "etre" verbs (those that use "etre" in the past tense instead of avoir) and talked about those that also can take avoir in the passe compose (see page 288-289 in text). We spent class each student designing their own Hotel d'avoir project:
Create a hôtel d’avoir

Design un grand hôtel de luxe, with people doing each of the following actions in both the “être” context and the “avoir” context (in the avoir context, the action should be followed by a direct object). Write captions in the passé composé for each.
monter / descendre / sortir / rentrer / passer
Example : Il est monté au deuxième étage. Il a monté ses bagages.

OR

Make an avoir/être crossword puzzle.
For each verb (monter / descendre / sortir / rentrer / entrer / passer) write a clue in the passé composé, for each of the contexts, leaving the verb out of the clue. Create boxes for the verb, overlapping them as necessary. Make a corrigés section (answers) in a corner of your puzzle. Use your vocabulary! Be creative!

Today we reviewed the past participles of irregular verbs on page 364 and then practiced writing and speaking in the past by writing one sentence for each activity on the "regles pour vivre on bonne sante" sheet. For example, J'ai fait 10 minutes de sieste and Je suis allee au cinema. This was turned in.
Then, we talked about the passe compose in more detail. You need to get the document handout if you missed class. We went over the verbs that use "etre" instead of avoir and the irregular verbs. We did exercises #24, 25 on page 371 and #28 on page 371 to practice. We added the verbs savoir, connaitre, souffrir, ouvrir, conduire and venir to the verb chart. Whew.
Devoir: workbook page 109# 9 and page 111 #13.

Today we went over the adverb homework and talke about comparing adjectives and adverbs. We did a practice activity making comparisons and superlative statements with adjectives and adverbs and practiced with the forms of better, mieux, meilleur/e/s.
Devoir: finish the handout and complete workbook page 96#19, 20. Review chapter 9 vocabulary for tomorrow.

Today we finished reading the article on page 338 and did a writing assignment to outline the article in French. Then, a short piece was written "Dix Attitudes pour Mieux Vivre." Need handout for both.

Today we talked about forming adverbs. We used a handout. Information is also available in the book on page 292.

Today we did workbook page 62 and a few minutes of lecture libre. Then, we used irregular verbs in context to talk about habits of a healthy lifestyle. We worked on two sides of a handout, then started the reading "A Consommer sans Moderation" on page 338. It is a challenging reading.
Devoir: finish a translation/summary of the text. Use words you know and context to grasp an understanding of what each sentence is about.

Today we talked about using adjectives to compare things. We discussed the comparative and superlative forms (see handout) and worked on a project involving 3 images and 5 adjectives. Write three sentences with each adjective: one descriptive, one comparative, and one superlative. Exemple: La voiture est belle. La voiture est plus belle que le camion. La voiture est la plus belle.
Devoir: Write the feminine forms of the adjectives in the handout list.

We spent most of the day taking the chapter 10 test. Must make up if missed. We then did some pronunciation and started a preposition packet.

We worked on "George le Curieux" stories and si clauses. Then, there was work/study time. Everyone completed a circumlocution puzzle of vocab words.
Devoir: If you received 8 or less on the si clause test, you have the following required homework:
1) Correct your test
2) Write an explanation of how to structure these sentences (ie, which verb tense you select to use)
3) Workbook page 78#11, 12
Everyone has a vocab quiz on chapter 8 tomorrow and there will be some si clauses on it as well.

Today we reviewed verbs boire, devoir, and recevoir. See book page 337 and complete workbook page 101. We then practiced the verb "devoir," to have to, by writing a list of 10 things you have to do before the end of school. Form:

Ex Je dois étudier. Je dois passer du temps avec mes amis. Check off.
Reading: your choice of "Le Hockey et le basketball" or "Le Tour de France"
Read and answer questions A/B of appropriate article. Translate parts 1 and 2 OR write a summary of text in French. This is the challenge option for students who are reading the article fluently (without translating text to English). We will continue reading tomorrow.

We did a 5-minute free write. Then, we talked about structuring questions in French. Students had the remainder of the period to work on the writing project.

Writing project options
On your own (écrit)
1. Prepare 10 interview questions for an interview with an athlete (a classmate or professional). Write real or imaginary responses.
2. Write a small report about the World Cup (Le Coupe du Monde), in French. 10 phrases
3. Prepare a calendrier sportif. Prepare a schedule of 10 PCFC (or Issaquah or Skyline) sporting events for the spring (Printemps) in French that could be posted on the teacher’s web site. Example on page 349, #5.
With a partner (écrit et orale)
1. Prepare a devinette, 10 lines describing a sport or an athlete without revealing the sport or person. You will present it to the class and see if the class can guess. Each partner should speak 5 of the lines.
2. Narrate a sports clip. Find a video of a part of a game and prepare 10 lines you could use to describe what is going on, as if you were the announcer. You will present your clip and commentary to the class. Each partner should speak 5 of the lines.

20 points, evaluated on:
Control of mechanics and structure of French (s-v sentences).
Complexity of sentences (ability to use adjectives, conjunctions, more complex phrases).
Extensive use of vocabulary. Not repetitive and exhibits wide range of new and previously learned vocabulary.
Relevant and informative response. Level of creativity and detail.

We did 13 minutes of lecture libre and then continued review of object pronouns. Went over exercise 14.12 adn 14.13 and self tested with Bon Voyage online quiz. Then we started chapter 8 vocab and played the verb game.

Also, review livre pages 248-249, ch 8 vocab.

Today we practiced vocabulary a bit and turned in the 8-word vocab in a picture with writing sample on the back. Then we added irregular verbs boire, devoir, and recevoir to verb chart (p. 337) and talked about irregular past participles (p. 364). Every class worked on a short reading using context and previous knowledge to decipher meaning and work through the written form of verbs in the passe compose.
Devoir: Complete the sens and infinitive columns of the reading handout.
Finish activite de vocabulaire, all words on page 352, for Friday.

Today we worked on the passe compose, completed workbook exercise page 98#9 and corrected the others from yesterday's homework. We then worked with the vocabulary.
Devoir: 8 vocab in a picture from page 352. On the back, write 5 complete sentences describing a sport that you like or play. As in English, a complete sentence must have a subject and verb. Sentences will be evaluated on their accuracy and complexity.
Your choice of vocab activity (word ladder, flashcards) for all words on page 352 due Friday.

Today we took a quiz on "si clauses" and turned in the qui/que worksheet. We started a handout on object pronouns.
