Create three columns on a page in your cahier, one for things (nouns), one for verbs (actions), and one for other words. Divide the words on page 108 amongst these columns. Write them in French, then self test yourself by writing them in English.

Today we learned how to use verbs. We learned the meanings of verbs from chapter 3 from a handout (yellow/orange) and talked about what we like and don’t like to do. Then, we read pages 82-83 in the text and talked about how the verbs are formed when someone is doing them. In the verbs we are talking about, the –er on the end means, “to” and when one person is doing it the ending change to –e, when more than one person is doing it the ending changes to –ent.

Today we finished reading Histoire 2 about Pépé le Pu and talked about using the words le, la, les, and l’ as “it” in a sentence. When you don’t want to keep repeating a thing, or the name of the object, you can drop the word and insert it’s article before the verb.
For example:
J’aime la fleur. Je veux la [fleur]. -- > Je la veux. (I want it). La is the flower, expressed as « it ».
Devoir: Handout on these words, called “direct object pronouns.”

Today we discussed pages 58-59 in the grand livre and went over exercise 12 on page 59.
We did workbook page 16 #12 and 13.
Then, we read the article on “Scolarite en France” on page 70 in the book and talked some more about the differences between French and American schools.

Chapter 1-2 test will be on Thursday, Oct 8.

Today we reviewed “tu” and “vous” and completed workbook exercise page 15, #10.
We did some speaking with the dialogue and worked on an activité de vocabulaire for Chapter 2. Instructions follow.
Activite de vocabulaire: Write all the words on page 78 down vertically on a piece of paper that is folded over 1/3. Write the English equivalent under the folded part. Start by self-testing yourself—If you don’t know a word look it up. This is a “word ladder.” You can use the word ladder to test yourself until you know all the words. You can find meanings of all the words here: http://www.pc.issaquah.wednet.edu/teachers/BoschkerK/Fr1Ch2vocab.htm
Devoir (homework): for Monday, finish the word ladder and study etre and the vocab for a quiz next week. Also, read page 58 and complete exercise 12 on page 59 in your textbook. This is practice making sentences plural.

Today we took the verb quiz on irregular –ir verbs and talked about the passé composé.
We got a handout on the passé compose, verbs conjugated with etre and irregular past participles. We started practice with irregular past participles on page R44 of book.
Devoir (homework) pour lundi:
• Look for an internet site in French that is interesting to you. You can find a site about a musician, athlete, sports team/event, news, country, cultural event, animal, etc. Spend about 15 minutes reading as much as you can and going to different links. Print out the home page of the site, then write 75 words in English telling why you picked this site and what you found interesting about the site.
