Français 1

Today we reviewed the six forms of être and the eight pronouns, and how to make them negative with ne and pas.

We then talked about the differences between the informal you “tu” and the formal you “vous.” See page 64 in the textbook.

Devoir (homework): make two columns in your cahier, tu and vous, and list 5 people you know that you would address as each.

Today we took the quiz on articles and the partitif.
Then we practiced with verbs.

Today we reviewed the words for school subjects (matières à l’école) and learned two new pronouns, “nous” (we) and “vous” (you all). We went over their forms of être and the entire être present conjugation on page 60-61. We did workbook page 15, #9 then practiced a dialogue using new words.

Devoir: workbook page 12, #5.
Write out schedule in French using vocab words and time.

Français 2:
Today we starting using the passé composé in conversation and filled in our verb chart with the passé composé. We listened to a song and answered questions about articles and partitif.

Today we reviewed body parts and talked about what to do if you are talking about many things, ie making a sentence plural.
We read pages 50 & 51, discussed the meanings of ils sont and elles sont, and did historiettes 1 & 2 on page 52.

francais 2
Today we discussed the partitif and went over a ourple handout. We did activities 4, 6, and 7 on the handout together in class.
Homework: handout activity 5, choose 4 to complete.

Today we did a 3 minute journal write then took the quiz on etre.
We got a green handout with pictures to practice conversation about "what you are going to do this weekend."
We then learned body parts. See handout.

français 2:
We got a green handout with pictures to practice conversation about "what you are going to do this weekend." We used 5 verbs to make suggestions for friends (Let's...) using the nous imperative (ie let's play soccer / jouons au football) and reviewed yesterday's homework assignment.
We took the pouvoir/vouloir quiz then read a class story.

Devoir: draw the story in three illustrations showing details that you understand from the story. Finish the story by writing 5 pieces of advice (using imperative) for Pepe to win Penelope's heart.
Also, add to your verb chart prendre, voir, dormir, sortir, servir, and partir

We went over the reading on page 41 and workbook page 9.
We learned new vocabulary words on page 54 and made flashcards for etre.

français 2:
We practiced the forms of pouvoir & vouloir and the completed a worksheet to practice the imperatif, or commands.
Homework is to complete the imperative commands on page 79 (of the handout) and to make corrections to the pizza/partitive drawings assignments if necessary.

Today we took a quiz on articles and m/f adjectives.
We talked about "l'Union Européenne" from workbook page 8. We corrected the map to include all 27 current members.
Devoir (homework): finish page 9 in workbook and reading, with questions, on page 41 of book

français 2
We talked about commands, the "imperatif," verb form. We added the imperatif to our verb charts and practiced commands with body parts and the game "Jacques a dit."

Français 1
Today we reviewed adjectives, articles, and m/f.
We worked with adjectives in the story and then turned them in.
We talked about word placement in French--how most adjectives come after the noun (une fille blonde, un garçon énérgique) and the set that come before. The adjectives that come before the noun are known as BANGS, words that describe, beauty (beau, belle), age, number, goodness, or size (grand, petit) (une petite fille, un beau garçon).
We worked in the "grand livre" (big book) on page 29, and in the workbook on page 6.

Français 2
Today we continued our discussion of the partitif and what to do when it is negative. After pas, du, de la, de l', and des all change to de (or d'). It's like changing some to any in English.
I've got some chocolate. I haven't got any chocolat.
J'ai du chocolat. Je n'ai pas de chocolat.

Devoir: creez une pizza selon vos gouts.
Choisissez 10 ingrédients, au moins 3 que vous n'aimez pas.
Organisez les 10 ingrédients en 2 catégories:
j'aime / je n'aime pas
Puis indiquez ceux que tu manges:
je mange/je ne mange pas
Use the appropriate article in each case.
Illustrez la pizza.

Today we went over page 7 in workbook, using the forms of etre and making them negative with "ne pas". There will be a quiz later this week on etre and masculin/feminin, so review workbook pages 5 & 7.

We had storytime and read a story "L'histoire d'un garcon et d'une fille" in class.
Devoir (homework): Illustrate the 3 paragraphs from the story on the back.

francais 2
Today we talked about the difference between using the articles le, la, l', les (definite article) and du, de la, de l', and des (partitive). We made a pizza in class to talk about the thing we like (using le, la, l', les) and the things we eat (using du, de la, de l', and des).
Exemple: on aime la tomate / on mange de la tomate

Devoir: review weekend homework (drawings of articles), make any necessary corrections, and write and example sentence for using each one.

francais 1:
today we talked about the verb etre and the concept of feminine & masculine.
We did exercises on page 5 # 10, 11, 12 to review yesterday's discussion of articles.
Then we talked about etre on page 30 and 32. We did our first journal write in the journal section of our cahiers (freewrite for 3 minutes).

Devoir (Homework): 1. activite de vocabulaire: organize the vocabulary on page 46 into three columns: masculine, feminine, and other. Nouns (people, places, things) and adjectives go into the f/m columns. All other words are other.
2. Workbook page 7 #15, 16. The forms of etre you will need are suis, es and est.

francais 2:
We took etre, avoir, aller, faire quiz.
Then we reviewed reflexive verbs.
We did our first journal write in the journal section of our cahiers (freewrite for 10 minutes).
Then we talked about de and its contractions.

Today we did workbook page 3, #8 to warm up then corrected the homework.
We talked about pronunciation and presented our activity from yesterday.
Then, we talked about the articles (un/une and le/la) from page 26 in the book and practiced with exercises on page 27 in the book.
Devoir: Pas de devoir--no homework for tonight, look over words and notes.

Today we talked more about reflexive verbs, the things you do to yourself.
We talked about what they mean and how to form them, and did activities 2 and 3 on the handout. Then, we worked on the reflexive verb exercises in the workbook on page R33.

Today we practiced writing descriptions by working in groups to describe animals and guess each other's descriptions. We used words on page 46 in the book. We will continue tomorrow.

français 2
Today we reviewed pouvoir & vouloir and talked about reflexive verbs. These are verbs preceded by "se" in the infinitive (se laver) and mean that one is doing the action to oneself. We got a handout from another book that lists some verbs on page 276.
The homework is to pick 4 verbs and draw them, one in the context of a reflexive verb (doing it to oneself) and one in the context of a non-reflexive verb.

Exemple: se laver (to wash oneself) v laver [la voiture] (to wash [the car])
or se réveiller (to wake up oneself) v réveiller ma soeur (to wake [my sister])
se promener (to go on a walk) v promener le chien (walk the dog)

Today our objective was to read and write descriptions of people. We read pages 18, 19 and 22 in the book and practiced writing descriptions of people. We learned the words for colors. We discussed question words qui (who), comment (how), and où (where).

français 2:
Today our objective was to use two verbes, one conjugated followed by the infinitive. We added pouvoir, vouloir, and devoir to our verb charts and did pages R13 #15, R18# 8-11 in class. We also talked about body parts (les parties du corps)

Francais 1:
Today we talked more about adjectives and describing people.
Homework: workbook page 2 #4, page 3#7

Francais 2:
Today we talked about the verbs etre, avoir, aller, and faire. We practiced verb conjugations with verb wars. Really work on getting comfortable with these and the regular -er, -re, and -ir verb endings in present tense. We added irregular spellings of -er verbs to the verb chart (acheter, payer, manger, commencer). These can be copied from the class cahier in class.

Today we talked about words used to be polite and the alphabet.
Classes were given time to complete the bonjour comic strip. This is the assessment for the vocabulaire preliminaire: in a comic of 6 frames, use 10 words/phrases from the list to create a dialogue and tell a story. Due Monday.
Period 1 will also turn in Flashcards, and Period 6 will turn in the vocabulary self test.

francais 2
Today we went over workbook pages R23 #4 and 7, and R10# 7 that deal with verbs. Then we read together the story "Dora va a l'ecole" and discussed the preposition a and it's contractions, workbook page R5 #11.
Homework: complete the present tense for etre, avoir, aller, and faire on verb chart.

Francais 1
Today we reviewed time (page 13 in book), went over the conversations on pages 2-7, and discussed new words. A list of vocab words can be found in the book on page 15, and a list of the words with English equivalents can be printed from the handouts page of my website: http://www.pc.issaquah.wednet.edu/teachers/BoschkerK/Handouts.htm (use the book as the main French for source as the website lists were typed by students.)

Some classes started on the Bonjour Comic Strip assignment that will be due Monday. Directions will be posted tomorrow.

Francais 2
We reviewed time and spent some time with adjectives. We used yesterday's devoir to fill in a "Mad Lib" and then find friends in class. Then we started our review of verbs and talked about the regular -er, -ir, and -re verbs. Everyone got a verb chart that we will fill in over the course of the year as new verbs and tenses are added. Students can see how much they can fill in on page 1, but don't try to copy the entire thing from a verb book.

Then, we talked about telling time in French (see pages 12-13 in book).

Homework: read through conversations on pages 2-7 of your book and practice words at home. Bring book tomorrow (jeudi).
Name poems were due today.

Francais 2
We talked more about adjectives--irregular adjectives. You'll need to get a handout.
Homework: fill in the "l'Amitie a toute vitesse" sheet with adjectives according to the directions. Remember, "avant le nom" means before the noun, so in these cases use a BANGS adjective. You can also refer to the sheet we used in class today for other ideas of adjectives. Bonne chance!

Today we discussed French names and talked about prononciation. We learned how to use a French/English dictionary and decipher feminine and masculine nouns and adjectives. Everyone picked a name and started on a name poeme, matching each letter of the chosen French name to a French noun or adjective. We will continue this activity next week.

Today we worked with question words and adjectives completing workbook page R1, #2 and pages R2-R3, #5, 6, 7.

We selected French names and started a name poem. Students select French words of different parts of speech to complete the poem as follows:
